My Mum's side of the family has the Meyn surname. The known family history is that a Dutch Naval Captain decided to settle down (with his wife) in Cochin in the 1600s.

Unfortunately, most of the history after the arrival of a Captain Meyn in Cochin (and the family history before that) seems to have been bottled up and buried.

I have recently discovered that the Meyn surname originates from Ireland, in the county of Leitrim:

 My original thoughts were that the point of origin of the Meyn surname was Holland as Captain Meyn served with the Dutch Navy in the 1600s before befriending the Royal family of Cochin (now known as Kochi.) I can only assume that Captain Meyn had a Dutch wife when he settled in Cochin/Kochi, Kerala, India as the details passed on are quite sketchy.

The coat of arms in the previous links could well be the original Irish coat of arms. The Meyn families who live in Holland seem to use the following coat of arms:
